The Creamline Cool Smashers did everything right, as they ran through the Cignal HD Spikers in front of 4,000 fans at the Batangas Sports Coliseum on Saturday.
Winning the out-of-town game, 25-20, 25-20, 25-16, the ladies in pink and white continued to make a statement in the PVL Second All-Filipino Conference.
The shorthanded defending champions are now 2-0 in the team standings, along with the Petro Gazz Angels and the Cherry Tiggo Crossovers.
After the match, Cool Smashers opposite hitter Michele Gumabao expressed her thoughts on their victory. First, she explained how special it was to come up with the win in the hometown of her teammate Alyssa Valdez.
"Every year naman, we really try to come here kasi warm support talaga, not only from the LGU (local government unit) but sa lahat ng Batangueños dito. Of course, nandiyan si Ly. So, maraming marami talagang salamat," said Gumabao, who notched a game-high 19 points in the contest.
Gumabao also revealed what she was really thankful for after Creamline's straight-sets triumph.
"We're just really happy that it's a safe game. 'Yun naman talaga 'yung prayer lagi, na safe lahat, walang injuries. So, thank you, Lord for this win," the former De La Salle Lady Spiker stressed.
The Cool Smashers are playing without two of their best players from the seasons past, namely Jia de Guzman and Ced Domingo. With that in mind, staying injury-free is indeed what's most important for the already depleted Creamline in the tournament. Losing another key player might be too tough to overcome.

Gumabao and the rest of Creamline will try to stay flawless on Thursday as they take on the Gerflor Defenders.
