The Akari Chargers added to the Capital1 Solar Spikers’ woes in the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference following a straight-set victory, 25-9, 25-17, 26-24, at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig on Saturday, Feb. 1.

This marked the Chargers’ first clean sweep of the conference and their second back-to-back win, which lifted them above .500 to 5-4.

Meanwhile, the Solar Spikers dropped their fourth straight game, with their lone victory coming back on Nov. 30.

The victory was made sweeter with the return of Ced Domingo after suffering a knee injury during the 2024 PVL Reinforced Conference semifinals.

After dominant first and second set victories, Akari saw a stronger fight from Capital1, even trailing 10-13 in the third frame. But four straight points from Ivy Lacsina gave her team the lead once more.

The Solar Spikers, however, kept fighting, regaining their two-point lead and even reaching set point at 24-22 behind Shola Alvarez and Trisha Genesis.

But Akari managed to force an extended set after Lacsina’s attack and reaching beyond the net error by setter Iris Tolenda.

Fifi Sharma then brought the Chargers to match point after a kill block on Genesis before Nisperos sealed the win with a cross-court kill.

Lacsina led the way for Akari with 15 points, all of which came on attacks.

The Chargers will be back next Saturday, Feb. 8 as they take on the Choco Mucho Flying Titans, still at the PhilSports Arena.
