Ateneo grab their second win in UAAP Season 86.
The Ateneo Blue Eagles bounced back from their tough buzzer-beating loss last Saturday after escaping the UE Red Warriors, 76-69, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
The Blue Eagles struggled to separate themselves from the Red Warriors as both teams went back and forth throughout the game.
With less than two minutes in the game, Ateneo’s fourth-quarter hero Jared Brown nailed a huge three-pointer to give the Blue Eagles a five-point lead. This basket eventually sealed the win for the Katipunan-based squad
Kai Ballungay once again led Ateneo with 18 points, 11 rebounds, and five assists, while Joseph Obasa added 16 markers, eight boards, three assists, and six blocks.
The win puts the young Ateneo squad at 2-2 in the standings, tied with UE.
“The keyword is growth because we just need to understand the system more, gel as a team,” Obasa said in a video posted by the UAAP Varsity Channel. “We're gonna make mistakes, you see it. We just need to go through that process and enjoy it and just learn from it.”
Ateneo will eye their second-straight win in Season 86 as they face the slumping FEU Tamaraws on Saturday at the MOA Arena.
UE, meanwhile, looks to bounce back when they take on the Adamson Soaring Falcons on Sunday, also at the MOA Arena.
