NU Lady Bulldogs Camille Clarin said she was surprised to see people comparing her to recently-crowned WNBA Rookie of the Year Caitlin Clark, as the Filipina skipper hopes to lead her team to redemption in UAAP Season 87.

Known for her sharp shooting from beyond the arc, Clarin drew a few comments on social media for being the “Caitlin Clark of the Philippines” early on in the season--especially with these shots against the UST Growling Tigresses.

But after absorbing games where she struggled with her shot, Clarin was meek when it came to calling herself equal to Clark.

“In our anger issues, yeah. I think that’s the biggest one. That’s the comparison that I feel like is the most accurate,” Clarin remarked with a smile.

Clarin and the Lady Bulldogs are looking formidable so far this year, even as the veteran would have off days from the field.

Like their win against Adamson earlier this week, Clarin turned to her passing to contribute to the victory.

Trying to find other ways to get herself on the stat sheet, Clarin said that she was keen on learning from Clark’s passing game.

“I love the way Caitlin moves the ball, and she passes the ball — that’s something that I hope to bring into my game,” said Clarin.

“Although I’m not necessarily a point guard, I think feeding the ball to our bigs is something that I’m good at doing especially with Angel [Surada]. We have good chemistry. So I think that in the passing department, maybe I’ll be a little similar,” she added.

During their Saturday victory against the UE Lady Warriors, Clarin took Player of the Game honors with nine points, five rebounds, five assists, and two steals.

As she continues to find her consistency game in and game out, Clarin said that she remains confident that her team can fill all the roles they need to come out on top.

“For me, what I talked about with the whole team is that whatever role I’ll need to fill, that’s what I’ll do. I think it’s super important with the team,” said the two-time UAAP champion.

“I know they wanna say that we don’t have one superstar, I like to think of it as we have many superstars. So I think that when it comes to it, anyone can contribute. So, for me, it’s just leading them and giving them the confidence to step up whenever anyone else needs to.”

The Lady Bulldogs are one win away from completing a first round sweep. They play their final game of Round 1 against the Ateneo Blue Eagles in a Final Four rematch on Saturday, October 5, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
