Defending champions FEU Cheering Squad will hope to save the best for last as they perform eighth in the 2024 UAAP Cheerdance Competition slated December 1 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

The order was determined via drawing of lots held Wednesday morning at the Press Center at the competition venue itself, ahead of the men’s basketball double-header later Wednesday.

Aiming for back-to-back CDC titles and a record 22nd podium finish, FEUCS head coach Randell San Gregorio was delighted at the result of the draw.

“Happy kasi ‘yun ‘yung gusto namin [to perform eighth]. Kasi sa nine years ko sa CDC, hindi pa ko nag-eighth. Lagi akong fourth, fifth, sixth, o seventh, naglalaro lang do’n, but never eighth. Siguro si God na nagbigay ng hiling namin this time,” he said.

First to perform will be the Ateneo Blue Eagles followed by the UE Pep Squad and then eight-time titlists UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe. Adamson will perform fourth to get to the halfway mark of the program.

The UP Varsity Pep Squad will take the mats fifth as they aim for a return to the podium before perennial CDC powerhouse NU Pep Squad performs next in an attempt to reclaim the crown.

The DLSU Animo Squad will be performing seventh before FEUCS.

Regardless of who performs when, San Gregorio is optimistic of their team’s chances.

“Alam na nila ‘yung feeling na tumapak sa mats and it should bring them confidence. Pero other than that, every year, new team, new theme. Hindi naman kami nag-uulit. Siguro ang pinakamaganda nilang madadala sa competition is nakapag-laro na sila; yun lang,” said San Gregorio.

Joining FEU in the podium last year was NU in second and the UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe finishing off at third.
