UST playmaker Cassie Carballo practices patience as she works to get her peak form in UAAP Season 87.
Seeking to regain her top form, UST setter Cassie Carballo had no problems finding the right people to back her up in UAAP Season 87, as the Golden Tigresses try for another deep run in the women’s volleyball tournament.
Coming off of back-to-back games where she was a little bit hesitant, Carballo found her rhythm in a five-set win over the DLSU Lady Spikers on Wednesday night, ending up with 22 excellent sets in UST’s second victory of the season.

Manufacturing UST’s offense, Carballo said that it was all about in-game adjustments and trust in the system.
“For me as a setter, nagtiwala lang talaga ako sa sistema and sa mga sinasabi ng coaches. Kasi mas nakikita nila 'yung nangyayari sa loob [ng court],” said Carballo.
“Kung ano 'yung plays na ini-instruct nila sa akin, ‘yun lang sinusundan ko,” she added.
As for the mental support, Carballo said that she got the help of those around her — especially the coaches.
Despite a tough first game in their three-set loss to FEU, the veteran setter worked on trusting herself by leaning on the trust of others.
“'Yung support system, especially 'yung coaches, [yung nakatulong sakin],” said Carballo.
“Wala rin ako dito kung hindi sila nagtitiwala sa akin. ‘Yun lang pinanghahawakan ko. 'Yung purpose namin. Lagi namin rine-remind 'yung isa’t-isa kasi masarap maglaro 'pag alam namin 'yung pinaghuhugutan namin.”
In the victory over La Salle, Carballo’s tosses towed three UST players to double-digit scoring, led by sophomore hitter Angge Poyos’ 28 points.
Reg Jurado added 17 markers, while rookie Marga Altea added 10 points.
UST now has a win streak with their 2-1 slate and will face the Adamson Lady Falcons on Saturday, March 1, still at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
