Adamson Lady Falcons rookie Shaina Nitura doesn’t mind going through birth pains in her first year of playing in the UAAP.
There’s no rushing Adamson Lady Falcons rookie Shaina Nitura as her team undergoes a rough patch in UAAP Season 87.
After going 2-1 across the first three games of the season, Adamson have since lost three straight games and are now at the bottom half of the standings with one game remaining in the first round.
But Nitura isn’t one to get frustrated so quickly.
The first-year player believes that the streak will be something that she and her teammates will be able to learn from the stretch and bounce back from it with a better mindset. As a rookie captain, the 20-year-old takes a more mature perspective.
“Feel ko hindi naman siya bad thing na nagkaka-losing streak kami kasi we have to learn from it. Talagang 'yun 'yung kailangan namin daanan para makaangat.” Nitura told reporters at the sidelines after Adamson’s loss to NU on Wednesday.
“So kailangan lang talaga namin i-endure tsaka magpatuloy lang sa ginagawa.”
Always a bright spot for Adamson even during the losses, Nitura said that even their losses had some good coming from it. That is, the Lady Falcons have shown flashes of brilliance, and they just have to tap into the potential.
“Hindi naman lahat ng talo namin bukod sa FEU is pangit 'yung nilaro namin. Yung iba nilaban talaga namin at ginusto namin manalo,” she said.
“Hindi lang talaga [kami] pinalad pero soon, darating din kami sa point na mananalo kami.” she added.
Of course, the struggles for Nitura haven’t been just on the court, as she also had to deal with a lot of noise on social media.
With lots of eyes scrutinizing the volleyball players’ every moves, Nitura said that she learns how to tune out the noise, especially when it comes to the digital realm.
“Hindi po ako nagso-social media.” said Nitura.
The UAAP rookie scoring record holder said that she had a lot more important things to do, rather than engaging in social media — especially during the volleyball season.
“Kasi busy rin po [ako], madami rin talaga responsibility kami na ginagampanan, pagiging estudyante at atleta and 'yung relationship pa namin sa mga kapwa-teammates po. So I think naka-cover up 'yung mga time na bored [ako], ganyan.” she said.
“Actually, kahit naman may social media ako noong dati, hindi naman talaga ako masyado nakakahawak ng phone and nakaka-socialize lalo na sa social media kasi nga busy.”
Nitura and the rest of the Adamson Lady Falcons return to the taraflex when they face the similarly reeling UP Fighting Maroons in their last game of Round 1 on Sunday, March 16, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
