The SIBOL MLBB women's team showed they can take on the best of Asia in the Land of Dawn, taking home the silver meda in the 2024 Asian Esports Games.
SIBOL’s Mobile Legends: Bang Bang women’s roster settles for a silver medal finish as they conclude their three-day journey at the 2024 Asian Esports Games inside the Indoor Hall Hua Mak.
The national team put up a gallant fight against perennial rivals in Indonesia in the best-of-seven Grand Finals, grabbing an early 2-1 lead but fell short after six games, 4- to be the second team in Asia.
SIBOL, powered by Smart, is composed of Gwyneth “Not Ayanami” Diagon, Kaye Maerylle “Keishi” Alpuerto, Rica Fatima “Amoree” Amores, Sheen “Shinoa” Perez, and Mery Christine “Meraaay” Vivero from Smart Omega Empress, and Lhoureian Hadiyah “Rianne” Alcaraz from ZOL Esports FE, while Empress’ coach Salman “KingSalman” Macarambon was the national team’s head tactician.
On Day 1, SIBOL bested Nepal, Brunei, and Sri Lanka in their group to progress to the playoffs as the second-seeded team in Group D, only trailing behind Indonesia. They swept Group A leaders China in the upper bracket quarterfinals to start Day 2 before beating Cambodia in the upper bracket semifinals in three games.
The Indonesian team gave them a 0-2 sweep in the upper bracket finals to start Day 3, as SIBOL then took a hard-fought 2-1 victory against China once more to proceed to the Grand Finals.
SIBOL will take home USD 2,000 in prize money to end their 2024 national team campaign on a high note.
The said tournament is the inaugural pan-Asian esports event organized by the Asian Electronic Sports Federation, with their ML:BB event contested by 20 AESF member countries.
