Blackwater import George King has made it known that he would love to suit up for Gilas Pilipinas if given the chance.
George King to Gilas Pilipinas?
If the explosive Blackwater import had his way, that would be the case.
Following his final PBA Governors’ Cup game for the Bossing, where he fired an incredible 64 points, King expressed his desire to play for the national team.
“I would love to play for the national team. I would love to put that blue no. 94 jersey on, I would love to do that,” he said.
Aside from a productive first stint in the PBA where he led Blackwater to a 5-2 record, King revealed a connection to Jordan Clarkson that has allowed him to gain more appreciation to the Philippines.
So much so that he’s willing to represent the country in international competitions.
“There’s a couple of guys that’s been on the team, Jordan Clarkson is a San Antonio guy and I’ve known him for a long time, and he spoke highly of the Philippines. I would love to mix it up with him and the guys here,” King said.
“If they [Gilas] wanna have me, I would love to do it. It would be an opportunity of a lifetime for me, and to do it for a place that I enjoy being, it’s just a double [win] for me,” he added.
As it stands, Ginebra’s Justin Brownlee is the main naturalized player for Gilas Pilipinas.
The national team can also tap Clarkson and Ange Kouame to fill in for the role, while former San Miguel champion import Bennie Boatwright is now also in the process of being a naturalized player for Gilas.
