Gilas Pilipinas just could not control Egypt from the second period to stumble to a second straight loss, 86-55, in the final day of the Doha International Cup Monday, Feb. 17 (Manila time).

After a tight opener, the Pharaohs used a 21-9 assault in the succeeding quarter before cruising to their third win in as many games.

Ehab Amin Saleh made the biggest difference after making four triples on his way to a game-high 20 points off the bench.

He also had six rebounds, eight assists and two steals for Egypt, which fired 11 three-pointers in the match that was only competitive in the first quarter.

Amr Zahran made two of those long bombs and finished with 12 points. Youssef Aboushousha scored 11 and Omar Oraby added 10.

While the Egyptian squad emerged as champions of the mini tournament, the Philippines wound up with a 1-2 mark.

Justin Brownlee paced Gilas with 18 points, five rebounds and an assist.

Carl Tamayo had nine points for the Nationals, who played young guns Kevin Quiambao, AJ Edu and Mason Amos in the final period to give them enough minutes before plunging into the FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers.

Gilas will now head home before flying to Taiwan to open the third window of the said qualifiers Thursday, Feb. 20.
