In 2020, the two-time PBA champion was able to gift 15 surfboards to kids from La Union.
Remember Rob Reyes?
The former Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters cager, who retired from the PBA in 2016, is making his presence felt in the country by way of a fundraiser for the local surfers in La Union.
The project is called “Share the Stoke.”
“With travel restrictions easing worldwide, I began planning a return, and my goal is to bring boards to the children in early 2023,” Reyes said in his GoFundMe entry.
The surfing enthusiast added: “La Union is where I first found the joy of surfing, which has since become a passion of mine.”
Why La Union, though?
“La Union is an incredible surf community filled with young people who love the ocean. Many of the young people in La Union do not have access to surfboards or equipment like wax, and this program aims to get kids access to good boards and equipment,” he said.
In 2020, the 6-foot-6 banger was able to gift 15 surfboards to kids from said place. The COVID-19 pandemic, however, prevented him from sustaining the annual project.
“The plan was an annual project to bring surfboards to the beautiful children of this community. But COVID prevented that from happening,” he added.
In this endeavor, the two-time PBA champion also hopes to promote the sport in the country where basketball is a religion.
“My hope is that this program will help promote the sport of surfing in the Philippines, grow the love of the ocean, and increase the opportunities for La Union youth,” he said.
