A star-studded night indeed.
Some of Philippine volleyball’s finest pro talents, particularly Rachel Anne Daquis, Aby Maraño, Grethcel Soltones, and Gel Cayuna, participated in the celebrity volleyball game of the 2023 Star Magic All-Star festivities on Sunday.
The PVL standouts took part in the game as reinforcements for the two competing squads that were mainly composed of actors and singers under the Star Magic management.
Cignal HD Spikers teammates Daquis and Cayuna played for the Star Magic Team Lady Spikers, while F2 Logistics Cargo Movers stalwart Maraño and Petro Gazz Angels ace Soltones joined the Star Magic Lady Setters.
Team Lady Spikers won the game in three sets but the real story was how the PVL imports showed out and exceeded expectations at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Perhaps the crowd thought that the pros would’ve taken it easy as the game was supposed to be just an exhibition. They did take it easy, but not without giving the fans a taste of top-level volleyball action. Those who witnessed it were in awe and can’t help but give some funny reactions.
Soltones showed why she is called Lady Beast.
The former NCAA MVP did apologize for getting carried away.
RAD, however, would not be outdone as she rose up for the booming spike.
Like her peers, Maraño also had great time hanging out with stars of the entertainment world. Of course, she grabbed the opportunity to take snaps with some of them.
Here she is with matinee idol Joshua Garcia. (Hello, Kamille? Are you seeing this? Just kidding.)

At the end of the day, everyone is all smiles. Perhaps no one is happier than Daquis, whose team won, giving her a second straight victory in the celebrity games.
Rightfully so, she flexed on Instagram her second Star Magic trophy.

You could tell that it was a fun night both for the showbiz celebrities and the volleyball luminaries. Next year, maybe more PVL superstars will be joining the party.
