He’s the MVP of the young ballers of Pangasinan for starting this tournament.
At this point of his life, Danny Ildefonso still wears a lot of hats. Of course, he’s a husband and a father. On the side of work, he owns a farm, presumably only one of his numerous business endeavors.
Not too long ago, Danny I made an unthinkable comeback to the PBA as a player of the Converge FiberXers at the age of 46. As of today, he’s officially listed back as an assistant coach for the purple-clad club in the league's preseason tilt, PBA On Tour.
Ildefonso isn’t stopping there, though. Recently, the two-time PBA MVP spearheaded the Lakay Danny Ildefonso Developmental League, featuring players at the age of 14 and under from his home province of Pangasinan.
The inaugural season saw the teams of PMW and MBSC Asingan battle in the final round on Sunday, with the latter squad coming out on top to win the first Lakay D.I. championship.
Under the leadership of The Demolition Man, the league certainly provides an avenue for kids to learn to play basketball the right way, as well as to know rudiments of the game like discipline and sportsmanship.
In the concluded Season 1, the league touted one division of hoops. But Ildefonso says there will be more divisions like 12-and-under, 16-and-under, and 3x3 hoops coming in the next seasons—which means more kids will get to play.
The Lakay D.I. Developmental League indeed stays true to their slogan that says, “We develop. We inspire.”
