The greats have come out to acknowledge the Serbian star’s greatness.
Novak Djokovic was celebrated by tennis fans all over the world for his monumental win at the 2023 French Open on Sunday. His 23 Grand Slam crowns are now the most in the sport.
The sporting world’s biggest names couldn’t help but send Djokovic high praise after he dominated Norwegian bet Casper Rudd in the final to seal his record-breaking win.
Rafael Nadal, the man whom the Serbian sensation just surpassed in the Grand Slam count, was a class act as always. The Bull from Mallorca even put in perspective how incredible Djokovic’s accomplishment was.
"23 is a number that just a few years back was impossible to think about, and you made it!" Nadal tweeted.
Three-time Grand Slam winner Stanislas Wawrinka used a flexing muscle emoji, a clapping hands emoji, and a goat emoji to proclaim that Novak is now indeed the GOAT.
One of tennis’ most revered legends in Australian champion Rod Laver was simply in awe of the new record-holder’s otherworldly skills.
"Your skill and unwavering mental fortitude on all surfaces is astonishing," wrote Laver.
French football superstar Kylian Mbappe, who was present when Djokovic secured the historic win, went on Instagram to congratulate his fellow legend.
"You made HISTORY," said Mbappe.
Another football superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who had recently retired, was also a witness to Novak’s GOAT coronation.
"Simply the best," the footballer wrote.
American football also got in the action as its own GOAT Tom Brady got up and close to dap up the man of the moment.
Of course, the younger stars of tennis, such as world no. 1 and 2023 French Open women’s champion Iga Swiatek and men’s world no. 2 Carlos Alcaraz would look up to the probably best ever.
"Congratulations," said Swiatek.
"Many congrats for the trophy and for the new record," said Alcaraz.
