Fans outrun them all in the first-ever Pokemon Run in the Philippines

Manila showed its love for all things Pokemon, as the first-ever Pokemon Run in the Philippines drew with a crowd of 10,000 runners on Sunday, February 9, at the SM Mall of Asia Complex.

Christopher Iblan was the fastest among the males in the 10K race with his time of 37 minutes and nine seconds, followed by Carlos Go (41:37) and Arel Montano (42:48).

Maricar Camacho topped the females with her time of 41 minutes and 48 seconds, as she was pursued by Jocelyn Elijeran (43:49), and Angela Nabel Velasco (51:08) in this race which saw participants dress up like their favorite trainers and pocket monsters.

In the 5K category, Louie Agawa was the fastest man with 16 minutes and 46 seconds, followed by Sherwin Cuenza (16:58) and Mark Angelo Biagtan (17:10).

Jennine Sze was the fastest woman with 22 minutes and 15 seconds, with Pauline Abril-Tabirara (24:03) and Maricris Abueg (25:40) making the podium.

Cavin Vidal had the best time in the 3K category for the men, finishing the course in nine minutes and 50 seconds, pursued by Kim Wilson Alison (12:22) and Ganimid Avarez Jr. (13:06).

Rhazanica Sarah Bautista had the best among the women with her 16 minutes and 30 second-time, followed by Mary Grace Dela Torre-Mondragon (16:40) and Paula Rickyvil (17:50).

And for the 1K, Joseph Fontamillas clocked in at three minutes and 40 seconds for the males to best John Archel Arroyo (5:00) and Gio Ranario (5:20).

Ai Kaneko timed at six minutes and 20 seconds for the women to get the better of Jhoenet Marquez (6:48) and Mari Samantha Bersaldo (7:10).

 

"We're humbled by the outpouring of support that we received in the first ever staging of the Pokemon Run in our country and we believe that this is just the start for more runs like these in the future," said RUNRIO president and CEO Rio de la Cruz.

It was a perfect mix of fun, brought about by the beloved global media franchise, and active lifestyle, with this run organized by RUNRIO, which also had Klook, Krispy Kreme, Philippine Airlines, Wheyl, and Rexona as sponsors, to celebrate the love for all things Pokemon.

Finishers received a special Pokemon-themed medal while also taking home a Pokemon-themed race shirt, a Pokémon TCG fun pack and playmat.
