You can take a hooper out of basketball, but you can’t take basketball out of a hooper.

Joe Devance retired from playing pro hoops back in 2022. Ultimately, he decided to live in the US with his family. Since then, the 12-time PBA champion remained visible to the public through social media and his appearances in various podcasts.

Known for his high basketball IQ and elite playmaking during his heyday, the versatile forward seems to have much more to offer other than going online to tell old stories and give insightful interviews. For sure, the knowledge and wisdom he has acquired in his 15 colorful years in the PBA can be passed on to the next generation. Thankfully, JDV has been heading in that direction.

On Wednesday, Pacific Elite Basketball, a hoops program in the US for kids, took to Instagram to show a few highlights from its championship run in an under-13 tournament. In the clip, Devance can be seen in the huddle, actively coaching the Team PEB.

So, has JDV decided to continue his basketball journey through coaching young hoopers? Well, he’s been at it for quite a while. Last March, he won his first championship as an interim coach. Yep, this is something that he really should pursue. After all, Coach Joe’s got the credentials, plus he's a winner.

To top it all off, Devance served as an assistant to coach Tim Cone with the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel. That alone says that JDV has the pedigree to become a full-fledged basketball mentor.
