She would be a huge addition if ever.
If there's one player that fans of the Filipinas want to see suit up for the national team, it's arguably Maz Pacheco.
The Filipina-British defender, who plays for Aston Villa WFC in England's Women's Super League, has been on the radar of followers of the Filipinas for several years now. And for good reason. She has the talent, experience, and moxie to help the history-making squad.
The 25-year-old Pacheco has an ongoing contract with Aston Villa WFC until 2025. She has also played for top-tier clubs in England like Liverpool, Reading, and West Ham United.
She already represented England in the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in 2018, where they placed third. But she's also eligible to play for the Philippines, as both of her parents are Filipinos (her mother traces her roots to Zambales).
Pacheco posted on Instagram on Saturday photos of her recent tattoo of what could only be presumed as Philippines-inspired symbols. Talk about wearing the flag on your chest.
Fans couldn't help but comment and ask if her new ink means she's finally decided to play for the Philippines. Even Filipinas defender Angela Beard showed her love, saying "Go off." To which Pacheco replied with a laughing emoji and a praying emoji.
As of now, everything's still speculation. Pacheco is probably focusing on her club and the Filipinas just finished their maiden stint in the Asian Games with a quarterfinals exit against Japan. Perhaps the tattoo was just her way of honoring her Filipino roots. What's sure though is that she has kept tabs on the Filipinas, even watching them live in the FIFA Women's World Cup last August.
It's not wrong for fans to hope though. Maybe Pacheco's next ink will be inking a deal with the Filipinas.
