Once upon a time, they had the fastest hands in the fight game.
Manny Pacquiao fights are can’t-miss sporting spectacles back in the day. That’s why it was truly a sad day for boxing when he retired after losing to Yordenis Ugas a couple of years ago. Undeniably, the Philippine fight scene still feels the ill effects of the eight-division champion’s supposed ride into the sunset.
In a recent interview, however, Pacquiao die-hards might be delighted by what the fighting pride of the Philippines had to say regarding an upcoming bout with former super-welterweight world titleholder Amir Khan.
“We’re working on it. I’m hoping that it will push through,” The Pacman said in an interview with Top Rank Promotions on Saturday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
A day before boxing’s heavyweight king Tyson Fury eked out a split decision victory over MMA champion Francis Ngannou, a good number of legendary pugilists who fought under Top Rank converged in the country’s capital in support of the high-profile matchup.
Pacquiao, who was obviously among the VIPs, also revealed where he plans to make his ring return.
“I hope the fight is going to happen here in Saudi,” the Filipino slugger divulged.
Back in 2010, Khan and Pacquiao used to spar against each other while both fighters were training under Freddie Roach. During Manny’s preparation against Antonio Margarito, a sparring session between the British pug and Pacquiao took place, in which Khan was perceived to have done really well.
Thirteen years later, it looks like The Pacman and King Khan will finally get to see who’s the better fighter after all. The thing is Pacquiao is already 44 years old, and Khan is 36. It’s hard to picture an electrifying clash with Manny coming out on top but hopefully, it happens for the Pacquiao die-hards.
