This King Maroon gets a Royal treatment.
The former captain of the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons CJ Cansino is taking the next step in his basketball career--playing for the Iloilo United Royals in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL).
The squad made the announcement on Friday, sharing a photo of Cansino.
Iloilo forward AJ Madrigal, who also hails from UP, shared it best.
"Ginulat ang mundo," he posted on his Instagram Story, tagging Cansino.
Having been part of the UP squad which won the UAAP Season 84 men's basketball title, Cansino became a leader for the Fighting Maroons to two more finals appearances.
He shared an emotional message in his farewell to UP.
He showed himself as a leader off the court too, taking charge and taking responsibility in a viral carnival incident involving UP teammate Francis Lopez.
Last month, Cansino said he was still unsure of his career path, but said he was willing to grab any opportunity offered to him.
Cansino is expected to boost the Royals which last finished with a 12-16 record, and lost to Bacoor in the first round of the MPBL playoffs.
