Reigning EASL and KBL Champion Anyang Jung Kwan Jang Red Boosters formally eliminated TNT from Final Four contention Wednesday scoring an 88-76 victory at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
The Red Boosters fired on all cylinders from the get-go, hitting seven three-pointers in the first quarter alone.
Trailing for most of the game, TNT mounted a roaring comeback behind the efforts of the Hollis-Jeffersons featuring Rahlir and the returning Rondae.
The Tropang Giga started hitting some key three-pointers of their own in the fourth, trimming the deficit to just five points, 73-78, with still 4:34 left.
But that was as close as the flagship MVP franchise could get, as a three from Choi Seongwon started a 10-3 closing run for Anyang.
In total, the Red Boosters connected on 15 three-pointers, 10 more than the Tropang Giga.
Choi led the way for Anyang with 23 points on a sensational 7-for-7 shooting from deep. Robert Carter Jr. went fpr 22 points, 13 rebounds, and seven assists while former Converge FiberXers import Jamil Wilson, who made his debut for the Red Boosters, added 15 points and 14 rebounds. Anyang missed the services of Rhenz Abando, who is still recovering from injury but joined the team for the trip home.
Rondae, who was activated for the game after hurting his neck last December, finished with a game-high 33 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists.
His older brother Rahlir, on the other hand, had 20 points, 12 rebounds, and five assists in the loss. No other TNT player scored in double figures.
With the loss, the Tropang Giga can no longer qualify for the Final Four stage of the EASL tournament.
Anyang, meanwhile, will look to finish the group stage on a solid note as they face the Taipei Fubon Braves on February 7.
