Dwight Ramos takes on a big responsibility for Levanga Hokkaido as they look to bounce back in the upcoming 2024-2025 Japan B.League Division 1 season.
As the Japan B.League season approaches, Gilas Pilipinas stalwart Dwight Ramos is stepping into a pivotal role as the team captain of Levanga Hokkaido.
Usually a reserved guy on and off the court, Ramos admitted to feeling some pressure in leading his team, which finished with a 17-43 record last year.
“It's just talking more with the guys, trying to get everybody together, keeping everybody in sync during the game,” Ramos said during the B.League’s 2024-25 Season Tip-off Conference last Thursday.
After his strong stint in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament with Gilas, Ramos decided to re-sign with Levanga, expressing his deep appreciation for the organization.
“Well, I just love it here. The coaches, the staff, GM, everybody--they make me feel valued here and wanted, so that's pretty much all you can ask for, the players and the organization that believes in you,” said Ramos.

Reflecting on his experiences from previous seasons in Japan, Ramos understands the challenges ahead. With the new season right around the corner, the 6-foot-4 guard and his teammates have been hard at work.
“We've been working pretty much every day, working hard, building chemistry, of course. A lot of preseason games, and we just gonna keep getting better,” said Ramos.
With back-to-back games being a staple of the league, Ramos is also aware of the mental strength required to succeed and do well despite the fatigue.
“I already know the schedule of the games. It's always tough, so I figured out how to take care of myself and be ready for the second game, which is a big part of the league,” he added.
First up for Ramos and Levanga will be the Shimane Susanoo Magic on October 5.
