Criss Cross unleashed the full force of its talent and tenacity to dominate VNS in a resounding straight-set victory, 25-14, 25-15, 25-15, in the Spikers’ Tuf Invitational Conference at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig on Wednesday.

Despite an early setback with the loss of star middle blocker Kim Malabunga to injury from a freak accident, the King Crunchers demonstrated remarkable depth and resilience.

After Malabunga landed awkwardly on a ball during warm-ups, dislocating his right ankle and spraining his left, the team rallied together, showcasing their exceptional talent and teamwork.

A roster of skilled players stepped up to more than fill the void, executing a game plan that overwhelmed the Griffins with seamless collaboration and strategic plays.

“Siguro ang pinag-usapan namin ay hindi kami magpapa-apekto sa nangyari kasi unang-una, part of the game ‘yun. Ang ginawa namin nag-focus kami kung ano ‘yung ineensayo namin,” said Jude Garcia, the Open Conference MVP who led the team’s charge with 18 points on 16 attacks and two blocks.

Criss Cross demonstrated not just confidence but an aggressive spirit, seizing control of each set from the onset and maintaining a relentless offensive onslaught throughout the 67-minute match.

One of the most striking aspects of the King Crunchers’ performance was their sheer firepower. They delivered a staggering 47 attack points out of 88 attempts, compared to VNS's 27, highlighting a significant offensive advantage that anchored their one-sided victory.

New additions Francis Saura and Nico Almendras made impressive debuts with 13 and eight points, respectively, with the latter also adding seven excellent receptions.

Middle blockers Chu Njigha and Gian Glorioso also stepped up in the absence of Malabunga, coming through with six points apiece.

The King Crunchers will take on the D’Navigators next on Oct. 27 at 6 p.m. at the same venue.

On the other hand, Charles Segui led VNS with eight points to go along with six excellent digs and five excellent receptions. Howard Guerra and Kenneth Daynata added six points each.

VNS will look to bounce back when they face off against Martelli Meats on Sunday at 4 p.m.
