Croatian-American Bernarda Pera proved to be too much for 19-year-old Alex Eala in the Round of 32 in China's Guangzhou Open.
Alex Eala’s campaign at the main draw of the Guangzhou Open was short lived as she faltered in the Round of 32 against Croatian-American Bernarda Pera in two sets on Tuesday, October 22.
After making it through the qualifying tournament, Eala was blanked in the opening set before being finished off via sweep, 6-0, 6-3, to exit the WTA 250 tournament.
Eala was caught on the back foot in the opening set against the world no. 95 player as she could not get on the board, 0-6.
While the 19-year-old put up a better fight in set 2 when she was going toe-to-toe with her opponent that is 10 years her senior, tying the set at 3-3, she couldn’t string together enough momentum to get back into the match.
It has been a busy few weeks for Eala in China as she also competed at the Wuhan Open as a wild card, before playing in the qualifiers of the Ningbo Open and making an appearance in the doubles tournament as well.
