The VNS Griffins stay in the hunt for a semifinals slot in the Spikers' Turf Invitational Conference with a sweep of the Chichi DHTSI Brotherhood Titans.
VNS revived its dwindling semifinal hopes by eliminating the winless Chichi DHTSI from contention with a 25-16, 27-25, 25-20 victory in the 2024 Spikers’ Turf Invitational Conference on Wednesday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.
The young Griffins held onto the seventh spot, snapping a three-game losing skid and improving their win-loss record to 2-4.
“Very happy kasi ‘yung practice namin lumabas. Ayun, ngayon kasi is all about growth. I’m very happy na lahat ng pinaghihirapan namin, lumalabas siya sa games,” said VNS head coach Ralph Ocampo.
“Adjustments namin ay ‘yung maging consistent lang sa ginagawa. Kasi nung [laban] sa FEU, medyo maayos ‘yung laro namin then nung sa Navy, shaky. So ayun, maging consistent,” added Ocampo.
CJ Segui led the Griffins’ charge with 14 points, 13 of which came from attacks, along with 10 excellent receptions in the quick one-hour and 16-minute win.
Julius Arcillo dominated at the net with six kill blocks, three attacks, and an ace to tally 10 points, while Kenneth Daynata also contributed 10 markers.
Justin Yatco directed the offense with 13 excellent sets, and Joshua Cruz added 12 excellent receptions and six excellent digs.
VNS will look to build on this win as they face D’Navigators Iloilo on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. at the same venue.
The Titans, meanwhile, officially exited the semifinals race, dropping to 0-7 in the standings.
Christian Alicante led Chichi with 14 points, while captain Jonathan Sorio added 12 in the losing effort. Matt Miguel was held to just four points.
Chichi DHTSI will aim to finally notch a win when they take on Martelli Meats on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
