2024 will be remembered as one of the greatest years for Philippine sports. With that, here are some songs that perfectly encapsulated those memorable moments.
What a year 2024 has been for Philippine sports.
From historic gold medals to feel-good storylines, Filipino athletes always succeed in delivering, especially when the stakes are at their highest.
As December hits, so do our wrapped-up for our favorite artists and songs for the year.
While many have already begun to share their top songs for 2024, we’re doing our twist with some Filipino athletes and teams that took the spotlight in this golden year.
Without further ado, this is One Sports’ 2024 Wrapped Edition.
1. Carlos Yulo — Maybe This Time by Sarah Geronimo
For two reasons and two reasons only.
- On his second try in the Olympics, Carlos Yulo brought home the historic double gold for the Philippines in gymnastics. It was indeed THIS TIME.
- Yulo made the song popular once more after dancing it with his girlfriend, Chloe.
2. EJ Obiena — Randomatic by James Reid
Honestly, has there ever been a song more perfect for an athlete than this?
You’ve probably seen THAT EJ Obiena edit, but if you haven’t, here’s why this song is perfect for the Olympian pole vaulter.
3. Team Philippines — 100 Taong Laban Para Sa Bayan
If you watched the Olympics like we did, you probably know the entire song by now.
This one is to show our appreciation for the 22 Filipino athletes who competed in Paris 2024 on the country’s 100th anniversary of participation in the Olympic Games.
Salamat, Carlos Yulo, Aira Villegas, Nesthy Petecio, EJ Obiena, Eumir Marcial, Carlo Paalam, Hergie Bacyadan, Joanie Delgaco, Sam Catantan, Bianca Pagdanganan, Dottie Ardina, Aleah Finnegan, Emma Malabuyo, Levi Ruivivar, Kiyomi Watanabe, Jarod Hatch, Kayla Sanchez, John Ceniza, Elreen Ando, and Vanessa Sarno.
4. Alas Pilipinas Women — Pantropiko by BINI
Bini took the Philippines by storm just like Alas Women during their incredible run in the 2024 AVC Challenge Cup.
Of course, to celebrate their bronze medal finish in the tournament, Angel Canino, Eya Laure, Sisi Rondina, Jen Nierva, Ara Panique, Julia Coronel, and Thea Gagate showed off their girl-pop dance moves to Pantropiko.
5. Alas Pilipinas Men — Up & Up by Coldplay
It only gets better from here on out for Alas Men after bagging bronze in the 2024 SEA V. League’s Leg 1 and 2.
With the 2025 FIVB Men's Volleyball World Championship coming up, expect Alas Men to continue their improvement on the way to becoming a top-tier volleyball national team.
6. Gilas Pilipinas — Winning Streak by Shaboozey
“This is how it feels to have a winning streak”
Gilas Pilipinas have been on a roll in 2024.
The national team came so close to qualifying for the Olympic Games Paris 2024, defeating then-world no. 6 Latvia and nearly pulling off the upset against Brazil.
With that momentum, Gilas also swept two windows in the FIBA Asia Cup 2025 Qualifiers, with its biggest win coming against a previous tormentor in New Zealand.
It’s definitely a good time to be a Gilas supporter.
7. Alex Eala & Bianca Bustamante — Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana
19-year-olds Alex Eala and Bianca Bustamante have been making quite the name for themselves in their respective sports.
Still in their teens, Eala and Bustamante definitely have a bright future ahead of them for tennis and motor racing, respectively.
It won’t be surprising to see one or maybe even both of them bring home another trophy in 2025.
8. Creamline Cool Smashers — Gold Rush by Taylor Swift
2024 PVL All-Filipino Conference? Gold.
2024 PVL Reinforced Conference? Gold.
2024 PVL Invitational Conference? Gold.
A golden year for the Cool Smashers—and they might just even top this one come next year.
Did we get this playlist right? We'll see you again in next year's wrapped!
