Carl Tamayo and JD Cagulangan faced off for the first time as foes as the Changwon LG Sakers defeated the Suwon KT Sonicboom in the KBL
Carl Tamayo and JD Cagulangan each cashed in decent numbers in their first meeting as foes as the Changwon LG Sakers fended off the Suwon KT Sonicboom, 78-70, in KBL action Monday.
After a string of big games from Tamayo, including back-to-back 30-point games, the former UAAP Rookie of the Year cooled down a bit and finished with eight points, five rebounds, two assists, and one steal. This is Tamayo’s first single-digit scoring output since December 7 last year.
Darryl Monroe did the heavy lifting in his place, powering Changwon with 18 markers, 16 boards, five assists, and one steal.
Meanwhile, Cagulangan was able to surpass the scoring output in his debut, finishing with nine points. He added one rebound and three assists in the losing effort.
Suwon is in the midst of a three-game losing streak — with Cagulangan currently 0-2 in his professional career. The Sonicboom are now 15-13 for the season.
The LG Sakers, for their part, are winners of back-to-back games and are at 16-13.
In the other game, Justin Gutang had 12 points, six rebounds, and three assists in the Seoul Samsung Thunders’ 81-69 win over defending champion Busan KCC Egis.
The Samsung Thunders are on a four game winning streak and are slowly building momentum at 11-17.
