Striving for greatness is a trait that runs through the veins of the Yulo family, with double-Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo being awarded PSA Athlete of the Year and younger brother Eldrew trying to follow suit.
For athletes, it’s difficult to stand in the shadows of a double-Olympic gold medalist like Carlos Yulo.
But for Eldrew Yulo, Caloy's younger brother, he sees it nothing more than motivation to push himself to be better.
Both Carlos and Eldrew attended the prestigious Philippine Sportswriters Association awards night on Monday, where Philippine sports’ best of the best were dressed to the nines as they were acknowledged for their accolades.

Carlos was the guest of honor, being feted with the highest award of Athlete of the Year by the scribes.
While Eldrew is still up and coming in his career, it wasn’t too early to start shooting for the stars just as his older brother did.
Speaking to media on the sidelines of the PSA Awards Night, Eldrew spoke about wanting to achieve the same things Carlos did — including winning Athlete of the Year.
“Ayun din, 'yung award din na natanggap niya ngayon, ayun din 'yung gusto kong matanggap sa susunod, athlete of the year,” said the 17-year-old.
“Syempre hindi na 'yun for the school lang, hindi na 'yun pang Metro Manila lang, siyempre pang buong Pilipinas na 'yan,” he added.
While Carlos was awarded the fete for his historic double gold performance in the 2024 Paris Games, the older Yulo has no doubt that Eldrew can also achieve what he wants.
“Sobrang proud po and siyempre siya po ang next generation. Really praying and hoping po na ma-achieve niya po kung ano 'yung gusto niyang goal sa buhay,” said Carlos.
Eldrew received a Tony Siddayao Award — which honors younger athletes with the potential to become elite in their respective sports.
