Alex Eala forges an unlikely partnership with world no. 80 Katie Volynets in the doubles tournament of the Oeiras Ladies Open.
No rest for the weary as Alex Eala is also seeing action in doubles at the Oeiras Ladies Open in Portugal.
Following her singles win over Anouk Koevermans, which was delayed for a full day due to rain, Eala will forge an unlikely partnership with former Miami Open foe Katie Volynets in the doubles tournament of the WTA 125 tiff.
The 19-year-old Eala and Volynets are the first and second seeds in the singles tournament, respectively, but are unranked in the doubles tournament.
They face US duo Christina Rosca and Carmen Corley in the Round of 16, currently penciled in on Wednesday (PH time).
Of note, Volynets was Eala’s first opponent at the Miami Open where she ended up making the semifinals, a run that propelled her to the top-75 in the WTA rankings.
Last March 20, Eala beat Volynets, 6-3, 7-6(3). That was Eala’s first win during the Miami Open main draw, which was followed by her sweep of Jelena Ostapenko.
