The victory was a day in the making, but Alex Eala made quick work of Anouk Koevermans to take a 6-3, 6-4 sweep in the Round of 32 at the Oeiras Ladies Open in Portugal on Tuesday.

After rain delayed the match for a good 24 hours, Eala came back rejuvenated and inspired against the Dutch hitter. As the match resumed in the second set, Eala blanked her opponent to pick up the win in convincing fashion.

As the top seed in the tournament, Eala was heavily favored against her older foe. But Koevermans proved to be a challenge as she seized the lead in the second set, 4-2, before the rain poured on and the match was called off.

But the 19-year-old was able to bounce back well on Tuesday night (Manila time), looking more upbeat with her hits.

Upon the resumption of the match, Eala won four straight games to seal the victory as she looks to bag her first singles title.

Apart from singles, Eala is also set to compete in doubles as she joins forces with ex-Miami Open foe Katie Volynets.

They begin their doubles tournament on Wednesday, where they are unseeded.

In the singles tiff, Eala and Volynets are seeded first and second, respectively.

The Filipina netter is playing in Portugal to mark her first return to action since her semifinals run in the Miami Open, where she beat Volynets in the first round.

The tournament also serves as preparation for Eala’s impending Grand Slam debut at Roland Garros next month.
