The Petro Gazz Angels’ upset bid against China’s Beijing BAIC Motor came up just short, 29-31, 25-19, 25-20, 20-25, 12-15, in the 2025 AC Women’s Champions League quarterfinals at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig on Friday, April 25.
In the winner-take-all fifth set, the Angels seemingly ran out of gas in their efforts to overcome BAIC Motor. However, the Chinese squad went on a 6-1 run for a 10-5 lead, led by Yufei Lu.
MJ Phillips and Brooke Van Sickle tried their best to cut the deficit, but in the end, BAIC Motor’s lead was just too much as Yufei Lu sealed the game with a powerful cross-court kill.
Ye Jin had a game-high 37 points for BAIC Motor. She was backed by Lu, who had 18 points.
Gia Day gave it her all for the Angels with 35 points, 17 excellent digs, and 10 excellent receptions, while Van Sickle and Jonah Sabete had 16 and 14 markers in the loss.
BAIC Motor will face Vietnam’s VTV Binh Dien Long An tomorrow, April 26.
