Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo wants to improve his all-around gymnastics performance to compete for a medal in the Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028.
Less than a week after winning historic double gold medals in Paris 2024, Carlos Yulo has his eyes set on another medal finish in the Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028.
And it's more than defending his gold medals infloor exercise and vault, Yulo said he also wants to win a medal in the individual all-around event.
“Right now I have to work on another plan kasi magbabago 'yung rules and kailangan kong maka-adapt sa ganun,” Yulo said during a Cignal TV press conference.
“Gusto ko this time, ang target ko [ay] maka-medal sa individual [all-around]. Kasi ngayon nalaman ko na medyo malayo pa pala ako sa pang-individual all-around,” he added.
In Paris 2024, Yulo finished 12th in the all-around finals with a total score of 83.032. In that run, the gymnastics star fell during his run on the pommel horse apparatus, lowering his total score.
Not bad for someone who reached the all-around finals for the first time.

With four more years to prepare for the next Olympics, Yulo will continue ramping up his skills in pet events while improving in the other apparatus that can help him achieve his next goal.
Yulo is the 2019 world champion in floor exercise and just missed the Tokyo 2020 podium in vault. By 2021, he was also a world champion in vault, while picking up silver and bronze medals in the parallel bar. In Paris 2024, he also secured a high mark in the rings--a sign of the gymnast's development.
“Still, target ko pa rin makapag-medal sa floor and vault and hopefully makapasok sa [parallel] bar, and siyempre ang next ultimate goal is sa all-around makapag-medal,” said Yulo.

In addition, Yulo hopes to have some gymnastics teammates with him in LA 2028, where they will hopefully compete in the men’s team all-around finals.
“Isa sa mga pangarap ko din 'yun. Kasi kapag nakapag-medal kami dun, hindi lang ako may medal, lahat kami,” said Yulo. “I'm really hoping and praying na maging healthy 'yung mga teammates ko and magawa namin 'yung mga pinapangrap naming lahat.”
