Lastimosa has a lot of weapons at his disposal, anyway.
In the absence of their leading scorer, RR Pogoy, the rest of the TNT Tropang Giga picked up the cudgels in Game 4 of the PBA Governors’ Cup finals against Barangay Ginebra San Miguel on Sunday.
There was Kib Montalbo, who hit four of the team’s record-breaking 21 three-pointers in its 116-104 win at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
“We had a lot of heroes tonight, not only Calvin (Oftana). I think if you noticed, Kib is a huge part of this game. Without Roger there, we need somebody who can step in and at least help out on the scoring side,” said coach Jojo Lastimosa, whose team will missthe services of Pogoy for the rest of the series. The Cebuano gunner suffered a fractured right pinkie in Game 3.
There were also Jayson Castro and Mikey Williams uncorking four triples each for the Tropang Giga, who evened the best-of-seven series at two games apiece.
Lastimosa also made special mention of veteran Kelly Williams, who was coming off a calf injury but was still able to make his presence felt defensively against Ginebra.
“Kelly helped out especially on defense. He’s gonna be rusty on offense, but he’s not gonna be rusty on defense,” added Lastimosa.
The story of the series has been three-point shooting. It appears the first team to catch fire from that distance, wins the game.
And if TNT wants to take a 3-2 lead in the finale, it needs to play the TNT way again on Wednesday at the same venue.
“Again we have to go back to our three-point shooting. It’s been the story of the series so far,” Lastimosa said.
Even sans Pogoy, it appears TNT has enough weapons to light it up from beyond the arc again come Game 5.
