Ricci Rivero will try to rejuvenate his pro career in the PBA.
Ricci Rivero's professional basketball journey has taken a backseat since 2022 after a failed attempt as an import in Taiwan. The former UP Fighting Maroon is geared to revive a promising career as he declares for the 2023 PBA Draft.
The two-time UAAP champion bared on Radyo5's Power and Play about his dream scenario and expectations in the pro league. According to Ricci, he doesn't target a specific team.
"Ako naman po wala naman sa akin kung saan ako mapupunta or pang-ilan," the 25-year-old hooper told former PBA commissioner Noli Eala.
Rivero's main concern would be his fit with the PBA squad.
"Looking forward lang ako sa draft mismo kasi malalaman mo kung saan ka maglalaro, and gusto ko doon ako sa magfi-fit sa system. I’m just excited na mabigay sa kanila ‘yung hinahanap nila from me."
Rivero could be an easy lottery pick in this year's draft. Although, teams might have a concern about his basketball conditioning.
Ricci assured that he's in game shape.
"Condition-wise, I’m confident."
He also presented his case about what he can contribute to whatever team drafts him.
"Doon naman sa kung what I can put in the table, sa akin, kilala naman din siguro ako ng ibang coaches, I’ve always been close to my coaches kasi gusto ko ‘yung gusto nila and hinahanap nila sa akin na mai-provide sa team. Be it sa defense o sa offense o ‘yung little things, the hustle, the energy."
The PBA Season 48 draft will be held on September 17 with the Terrafirma Dyip having the first overall pick. It will be followed by the Blackwater Bossing, Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Master, and the NorthPort Batang Pier rounding up the first five picks.
