With multiple reports indicating Maverick Ahanmisi’s move from the Converge FiberXers to the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, fans of the PBA are having a field day.

For one, it’s a major shakeup. Ahanmisi blossomed into a PBA All-Star caliber player last season, which even prompted debates about the festivities’ voting format.

Secondly, this is Ginebra we are talking about—the crowd darlings.

On X, formerly known as Twitter, @momonnnnn__ says that the 6-foot-2 guard is the luckiest player in the PBA right now, outside of the players who just saw their dreams get fulfilled on PBA Draft night.

“Akalain mo kuhanin ka ng Ginebra,” said the X user.

It’s not only Ahanmisi who wins here. Respected X content creator @PBAinsider asked who the biggest winner of the draft is, and netizen @JAYPEE21 is convinced that Ginebra is also reaping big-time benefits from the acquisition.

“With the addition of Mav Ahanmisi, Ginebra won this year’s draft (day transactions)!”

Hoops fan Migs, on the other hand, made light of all the past online tussles that Maverick has gotten into when he tried to deny news of his career plans.

“Sa Ginebra din pala bagsak ni Ahanmisi,” said Migs.

Other PBA followers, however, saw the move coming hours early. To be specific, they knew it when Converge used its ninth pick on drafting former De La Salle Green Archer Schonny Winston—another guard who can light up the scoreboard like Ahanmisi.

Right as the pick was announced, users BEKSHOOT!, Onin, and jubs all posted on X.

“Winston a Ahanmisi replacement,” said BEKSHOOT!.

“Yun Schonny Winston, pamalit kay Mav Ahanmisi,” wrote Onin.

“So goodbye Maverick Ahanmisi na talaga ‘to,” added jubs.

Ginebra fans, however, will have a lot to look forward to as they welcome another surefire talent.

How do you think Ahanmisi will fit in to Tim Cone’s system? Only time will tell.
