It has a lot to do with this one player.
There’s no doubt in coach Jamike Jarin’s mind Johnathan Williams has played a huge role in the Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters' scintillating start in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
Jarin said Williams’ selfless play did wonders in the Fuel Masters’ third straight victory and their overall 4-1 record—their all-time best five-game start in an import-laced conference in franchise history.
Phoenix zoomed to its fourth win by drubbing the Terrafirma Dyip, 103-84, on Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
“We’re just playing selfless basketball. One of the reasons is the guy on my left,” Jarin said, pointing to Williams. “He’s really playing well and (is) selfless. A lot of credit has to go to him.”
The Phoenix reinforcement was all over the court versus Terrafirma, pouring in 29 points, 13 rebounds, four assists, one steal, and one block as the Fuel Masters turned it up in the second period and never looked back.
But the outspoken mentor stressed it was still a collective effort on both ends of the floor that did the trick on Wednesday for the Fuel Masters..
“Everybody is just contributing in their own little way,” he said. “It’s a collective effort.”
While they revel in this little milestone, Jarin said the job’s not done yet. The Fuel Masters will go back to the drawing board on Thursday and gear up for their upcoming game against the Converge FiberXers on Saturday.
Game time is set at 3 p.m. at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
