Ginebra forward Jamie Malonzo will be shelved for six to eight weeks, coach Tim Cone confirmed to One Sports.

This was after Malonzo went down after going for a drive in the waning seconds of a 95-88 win over NorthPort in the PBA Season 48 Philippine Cup last April 14.

Malonzo stayed on the floor for several minutes as Ginebra staff and teammates held their breath, hopeful it was nothing serious.

“Initial prognosis is calf tear,” Cone said in a text message. “6-8 weeks before he can return to the lineup.”

This may be a relief for the Gin Kings, who initially though the injury could be an Achilles tear.

Still, the high-flying Malonzo could miss the remainder of the All-Filipino conference where the Gin Kings are making a playoff push.

Ginebra currently sits at the fourth spot with a 5-3 win-loss card and will look to fill Malonzo's spot before their showdown with TNT Tropang Giga on Friday, April 19, at the Philsports Arena.
