Slowly but surely, Ginebra is getting its bearings in the PBA Season 49 Governors’ Cup.

The Barangay Ginebra San Miguel have had an understandably up-and-down showing in a conference where they infused new guys Stephen Holt, Isaac Go, and RJ Abarrientos.

Now with Holt and Abarrientos already looking comfortable with their new team and system, Ginebra eyes back-to-back wins when tangling with the beleaguered Phoenix Fuel Masters on Friday, September 6.

The match starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium, with Ginebra hoping to hike its record to 3-2 heading into the second round of hostilities in Group B that also features Rain or Shine, NLEX, and Blackwater.

Though coming off a 119-91 disposal of the Road Warriors, Ginebra should still be wary of the Fuel Masters, who are desperate to chalk up win no. 1.

While a win remained elusive for them during new import Brandone Francis’ PBA debut, the Fuel Masters remain a dangerous team which pushed San Miguel to the limit before CJ Perez saved the day with a step-back four-point basket.

Francis also impressed in his first game, lighting up with 45 points. But his herculean efforts proved futile as the rejuvenated Blackwater went home with a 123-111 win.

Meanwhile, NLEX (2-3) and Blackwater (3-2) look to open their second round campaign on a winning note as they clash in the curtain-raiser at 5 p.m.

The Bossing built stellar back-to-back outings which saw them clip the Gin Kings and Phoenix behind new reinforcement George King.

The last time these two teams met in the first round, NLEX dealt Blackwater a 104-87 beating.

But the Bossing were still with Ricky Ledo then. Ledo racked up 18 points in two games before getting the pink slip.
