While they are grateful for the comparison, Scottie Thompson and RJ Abarrientos are focused on delivering for Ginebra especially in the PBA Season 49 Governors’ Cup Finals.
Fans could not help but compare Scottie Thompson and RJ Abarrientos partnership on the court to legendary Ginebra duo Mark Caguioa and Jayjay Helterbrand.
It’s hard to blame them.
Thompson and and Abarrientos have looked lethal whenever they share the court ala Fast and the Furious, proving steady in the Gin Kings’ conquest of San Miguel in the PBA Season 49 Governors’ Cup semifinals.

Thompson was flattered by the comparison of course.
“For me, [being compared to] the Fast and the Furious, it’s a privilege para sa’min ni RJ,” the former PBA MVP told One Sports after the Finals press conference on Thursday, October 24.
Abarrientos shared a similar sentiment.
“Sa ngayon marami nagsasabing fans na me and Kuya Scottie yung pwedeng pumalit, sobrang happy and grateful ako kasi ganun kami tinitignan ni Kuya Scottie,” he said.
But there can only be one Fast and the Furious.
Thomson knows the weight that comes with the comparison. That is why he will doing everything in his power to live up to the billing.
“Like I said sa mga previous interviews ko, di mo basta-basta kayang palitan yun. Sila lang yung Fast and Furious, not just sa liga natin but sa buong Pilipinas,” he said.

Whether or not they will eventually be anointed the Fast and Furious 2.0, they said they are only focused on making a name for themselves in the PBA with the Gin Kings.
“Happy na nagkaroon ng point of view ng mga fnas but overall kami ni RJ we also want to make a big impact para sa team namin. Whatever the result is kung ano man nakikita nila sa amin we’re truly blessed,” Thompson said.
Right now, the focus is on gaining a headstart against the TNT Tropang Giga in the Finals which begins on Sunday, October 24.
“Pero for now focus namin yung team e. For us na ganun na yung nagiging tandem namin, siguro kailangan naming mas lumalim pa versus TNT,” said the nephew of PBA great Johnny Abarrientos.
“Siguro di ko masyado iniisip yun. I’m just worried now kung ano magiging series namin sa TNT.”
