Maverick Ahanmisi did not seem fazed following Ginebra’s 72-99 setback to TNT in Game 5 of the PBA Season 49 Governors’ Cup Finals last Wednesday, Nov. 6.

After the Tropang Giga picked the Gin Kings apart from start to finish in the pivotal match of the best-of-seven series, Ahanmisi assured that the squad's confidence remained intact.

Ginebra, winner in Games 3 and 4, found itself on the brink of heading to the exits at 2-3.

“The atmosphere is, it’s not over. We have to win two in a row. We beat them twice in a row. So we’re still confident we can do it,” said Ahanmisi.

After initially dropping the first two matches in the series, Ginebra seemingly figured it out and took Games 3 and 4. Ahanmisi averaged 17 points and eight rebounds in those victories.

But the Tropang Giga brought out their main weapon anew — defense — and made life miserable for Ahanmisi and the rest of the Gin Kings.

The steady guard went 0-for-7 from the field and finished with one point, four rebounds, two assists and a block in a game where even import Justin Brownlee was held to a career-low eight points on a 3-for-13 clip.

“I think you guys look into it too much in terms of what Justin Brownlee contributed in terms of points. I think you guys should be looking at it as like, what did TNT do? They came out with a good game plan,” said Ahanmisi when asked about Brownlee’s measly output.

“Got to give them credit, man. They played really well. They scouted us. We have to adjust to that," he added.

With their backs against the wall, the Gin Kings need to come out with guns ablaze come Game 6 on Friday, Nov. 8.
