The Meralco Bolts became the latest casualty of the “hungry” Converge FiberXers in the PBA Season 49 Commissioner’s Cup.
There’s no doubt in Chris Newsome’s mind that Converge is a powerhouse team in the making — one that can match up with perennial against league juggernauts San Miguel, Ginebra, and TNT.
Newsome had this to say after the Bolts fell prey to the FiberXers in their Christmas Day game in the PBA Season 49 Commissioner’s Cup.
“Gotta give credit to Converge. They’re really playing well. As you guys see, they took down San Miguel, they took down Ginebra, they got us. That’s a team thats hungry and playing really well,” said Newsome after the match at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
It’s not exactly reaching when Newsome made that statement. After all, Converge boasts of young, budding stars in Alec Stockton and Justin Arana as well as Jordan Heading and top pick Justine Baltazar.
With this young core leading the charge, the FiberXers picked up their sixth straight victory against two losses in the mid-season joust.
“They’re showing thats gonna compete. They’re gonna be a scary team especially if they get to the playoffs,” the Philippine Cup champion said.
“They got a lot of good pieces that’s gonna help them be successful. Hopefully they stay healthy over there. It’s gonna be exciting how far that team can go.”
Whether or not Converge will make a prophet out of Newsome remains to be seen.
