Jorge Gallent will be the head coach of the San Miguel Beermen in the upcoming Governors’ Cup. He replaced Leo Austria who’s been SMB’s chief tactician since 2014. Gallent spent most of his PBA career as an assistant coach for several teams, before settling with the San Miguel Beer franchise in 2011.

In Gallent, the Beermen will have a trusted hand who has garnered valuable coaching experience over the years. As an assistant, he’s a ten-time PBA champion. And as a head coach, he won seven chips in the defunct amateur league – the PBL. He’s also served as the drillmaster of the B-Meg Derby Ace Lllamados in 2010-2011 season of the PBA.

During the recently concluded Commissioner’s Cup, Gallent stepped up in place of Leo Austria for several games. Back then, rumors about his ascent to the head coaching position were already circulating. Although Austria has led SMB to nine championships, the Beermen hasn’t won an import-laden conference since 2019. As for the Governors’ Cup, the last time San Miguel had won it was back in 2015.

Here's San Miguel's Governors' Cup lineup posted by the PBA.
