It happened in the final minute of the game between Magnolia and Converge.
The PBA on Monday slapped Magnolia Hotshots assistant coach Johnny Abarrientos with a P10,000 fine for flashing a middle finger at Converge FiberXers import Jamaal Franklin in their PBA Governors’ Cup opener.
Commissioner Willie Marcial bared he talked to the Flying A early this morning regarding Sunday’s incident, adding the latter was apologetic.
“Kausap ko si coach Johnny kaninang umaga, very apologetic naman siya,” Marcial told One Sports.
The incident happened after Franklin nailed a crucial three-pointer against Rome dela Rosa with 1:05 remaining, effectively ending a furious Magnolia rally led by import Eric McCree and Paul Lee.
The prolific reinforcement then made the “sit down” gesture as he was jogging towards the other end of the court.
That didn’t sit well with Abarrientos, who then made the obscene gesture which went viral on Sunday night. FiberXers went on to win, 111-109.
