From one spiker to another.
The F2Logistics Cargo Movers were among the teams that went on an offseason recruiting spree prior to the PVL Invitational Conference, and among the team's prized newcomers is former FEU Tamaraw Jov Fernandez, who was hailed Best Opposite Spiker of UAAP Season 85.
And, so far, F2’s new additions have been playing well, including Fernandez.
Tapped to provide the Cargo Movers with another lethal scoring option, Fernandez has more than answered the call, giving the ladies in yellow a legitimate threat whenever Regine Diego calls her number.
Fernandez did it again on Saturday, spelling Kim Kianna Dy in stretches to give F2 the boost it needed in a long, drawn-out four-setter against a very game Cignal HD Spikers. The Cargo Movers prevailed, 25-20, 30-28, 23-25, 25-22, with Dy leading the way, exploding for 23 points built on 20 attacks and 3 blocks.
While Dy was the star in this game, Fernandez’s solid outing did not go unnoticed. And no less than Dy, herself among the best opposite hitters in the pros, gave the young spiker her much-deserved flowers.
“Jove was the best opposite [hitter] in the UAAP, and she’s really a great addition sa team,” said Dy of her new teammate. “Kahit bata siya she really boosts us, so that’s good for the team.”
That boost may not be reflecting yet on the stat sheets, as Fernandez has scored only 7 points so far in two games this conference. But the ex-Tamaraw has been solid as a rock even as a rookie, and the threat she presents has opened up the game for the 2-0 Cargo Movers.
Put simply, Fernandez has been a presence for F2—and Dy knows it all too well.
Dy and the Cargo Movers will next face the unbeaten Choco Mucho Flying Titans after the PVL's 10-day break.
