PVL stars continue to prove that the league is still growing.
Records were made to be broken.
As each year passes, the level of play in the PVL has definitely stepped up a notch or two. Even Sisi Rondina, who was out of indoor volleyball action for four years, admitted that the game has evolved in a lot of ways.
And with the addition of three new teams, fans can expect to see greater competition that only paves the way to more iconic performances.
With that in mind, let's look back at some of the most notable individual PVL milestones over the years:
Most digs in a game: 48
Let’s start off with the most recent accomplishment—48 (!) digs in a game by Dawn Macandili of the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers.
The 5-foot-2 libero showed a defensive masterclass as she helped the Cargo Movers seize a four-set win over the Cignal HD Spikers in the ongoing PVL Invitational Conference.
If there was any libero that could do it, it was definitely Dawn.
Most points scored in a single game: 44
When it comes to locals, Alyssa Valdez holds the record of scoring the most points in a single game. When it comes to the overall PVL record, it's Prisilla Rivera who's head and shoulders above everyone.
Back in the 2022 Reinforced Conference, the 37-year-old Olympian from the Dominican Republic unloaded 44 points built on 39 attacks, four aces, and 1 block to lead the Akari Chargers to a thrilling, comeback five-set win over the Choco Mucho Flying Titans.
Fans are definitely hoping to see Mama Pri back in the PVL soon.
Most aces in a match: 8
It’s not surprising at this point to see Valdez holding another PVL record. The Phenom has seemingly done it all in her career.
For this one, Ate Ly tallied the most aces in a match, scoring 8 against the Tacloban Fighting Warays in the 2018 PVL Reinforced Conference.
Most excellent sets in a match: 71
Who else than eight-time PVL Best Setter Jia de Guzman?
The ever-dependable Creamline Cool Smashers star holds the record for the most excellent sets in a match. She tallied 71 excellent sets—yes, 71—in a win against the BaliPure Purest Water Defenders during the 2017 PVL Open Conference.
Best Libero awards: 2
The PVL has seen many liberos step up their game in different conferences to bag the Best Libero award, but only two players have done it more than once.
Those are Melissa Gohing-Nacino and Kath Arado, who both won the award twice.
Gohing-Nacino was named top libero in the 2017 PVL Reinforced and Open Conferences as part of the Creamline Cool Smashers, while Arado took home the trophy in the 2021 PVL Open Conference and this year’s All-Filipino Conference.
Most Finals MVP awards: 4
Alyssa again? Nope. Tots Carlos? Close, but still nope. The PVL star with the most Finals MVP awards is actually Jia.
The Cool Smashers’ setter won her fourth Finals MVP award back in the All-Filipino Conference earlier this year.
Prior to that, de Guzman took home the award in the 2018 Reinforced Conference, 2018 Open Conference, and 2019 Open Conference.
Will this be her last Finals MVP award? Probably not.
