The HD Spikers repulsed a hard-fighting F2 Logistics in four sets.
Gel Cayuna knew she needed to step up on Thursday, and she did just that, as the Cignal HD Spikers hacked out a nerve-wracking 25-23, 22-25, 26-24, 26-24 win over the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers in the PVL Second All-Filipino Conference.
Her teammates followed suit, with reigning PVL Invitational Conference MVP Ces Molina firing 22 points, none bigger than the through-the-block shot that sealed their fifth straight victory.
When the going got tough, Cayuna admitted feeling a little bit nervous.
“Medyo kinakabahan ako kasi dikitan,” said the Cignal setter, who finished with four attack points and 22 excellent sets. “Pero sabi ko sa sarili ko, kung merong isang dapat matatag, ako ‘yun kasi setter ako.”
She added that it also helped that coach Shaq delos Santos was trying to make them loosen up during timeouts.
“Sobrang importante ‘yun kasi isa sa nagpapagaan sa gawain namin ‘yun sa loob ng court. Sana tuloy-tuloy yung happiness,” she said.
Cayuna also starred for the HD Spikers in their trouncing of the Petro Gazz Angels last Saturday.
With the victory, Cignal improved to 6-2 in the team standings. But while the 25-year-old Cayuna agreed consistency played a key role in their red-hot stretch, she said there’s still a lot of work cut out for the team.
“(Nakuha na ‘yung consistency) kasi sunod-sunod na rin panalo. Tatrabahuhin pa namin ‘yun hanggang dulo,” she said.
The HD Spikers aim to make it six wins in a row when they face the Chery Tiggo Crossovers on Tuesday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig.
