When it comes to questions about what worked for them, the Creamline Cool Smashers have sung the same refrain over and over again.

Every member of the team attributes its success to the system coach Sherwin Meneses has employed. It’s the same system that allowed them to sweep their way to the finals in the ongoing PVL Second All-Filipino Conference.

And as the season progresses, it’s easy to see why.

That system worked anew for the Cool Smashers when they drew first blood against the Choco Mucho Flying Titans, 25-22, 19-25, 26-24, 25-22 in the finals on Thursday.

Five Cool Smashers finished in double figures, with Tots Carlos and Jema Galanza topscoring for the team with 16 points. Pangs Panaga scored 13 points, while Michelle Gumabao and Alyssa Valdez chipped in 11 each.

“Since day one naman ‘yan lagi sinasabi sa’min nila coach, na ‘yung suporta sa isa’t isa, ‘yung confidence from the trust of our coaches. Umiikot kami sa isang sistema,” she said after the match at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. “We’re just happy na na-execute namin sinasabi ni coach.”

Creamline exemplified all that in the third frame, where they erased a seven-point deficit to steal the set behind Valdez’s timely hits.

“We’re grateful na nakabalik kami sa set na ‘yun,” Carlos said.

The Cool Smashers will need that same composure and grit when as they go for the jugular in Game 2 on Saturday.

Gametime is set at 6 p.m. at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
