The next time they are in the finals, this won’t definitely be a problem for the Flying Titans.
As far as skills and personnel are concerned, Choco Mucho Flying Titans kept in step with the Creamline Cool Smashers in the recently concluded PVL Second All-Filipino Conference finals.
The Flying Titans, in fact, had several opportunities to pull away or even notch a win, particularly in what turned out to be the deciding Game 2. But something just felt amiss.
Choco Mucho coach Dante Alinsunurin said championship experience made a world of difference as the Cool Smashers swept the best-of-three final en route to their seventh championship in the league.
“In terms of skills, talagang nandun kami, nakikipagbanatan kami. Sa blocking, sa depensa,” he said in Wednesday’s episode of The Game. “Pero pagdating sa experience sa championship, talagang ang hirap talunin ng Creamline.”
Though the Flying Titans dictated the tempo most of the time, they just couldn’t finish off the Cool Smashers led by finals MVP Tots Carlos, clutch queen Alyssa Valdez, and the ever-spectacular Jema Galanza.
“Kasi anytime, kahit anong gawin naming adjustment, nag-a-adjust din sila,” he said.
Still, Alinsunurin couldn’t help but be proud of his wards, who went on a 10-game winning rampage to end the elimination round.
“Siguro sa series na ‘yun, sobrang thankful ako sa naging performance namin. Kami nagdi-dictate ng tempo. Siguro sa bandang dulo nakikita talaga experience ng Creamline,” he said.
After getting its first taste of the finals experience, expect Choco Mucho to crave for more going forward. And with the experience they gleaned from facing a champion squad like Creamline, it might not be long before the Flying Titans finally win that breakthrough title, like their sisters.
