The addition of veteran outside hitter Grethcel Soltones means so much more than just additional firepower for the Akari Chargers.
Soltones, who has proven to be a steady contributor on offense, is also an individual that brings positive energy to her team whether on or off the court.
And when asked about what she hopes to contribute to her new team in the Chargers, the 28-year-old outside hitter made an emphasis on two key points, one of which is the simple thing of smiling more.
“Siguro 'yung tibay pa ng loob lalo na pag sa dikdikan na points,” said Soltones. “Also, 'yung pag-eenjoy sa bawa't galaw mo sa court kasi medyo seryoso sila in a way.”
“Every game naman 'yun parati ko sinasabi na ibibigay ko 'yung 101% ko sa game and also mas more on ngiti,” she added.
During Akari’s training sessions, Soltones has already proven to be one of the team’s vocal leaders, cheering on her new teammates and making it more of a lighter mood by making jokes during breaks.
“Kahit naman talaga saan makulit talaga ako and also gusto ko masaya. I know naman na hindi parati masaya pero siyempre most of the time kasi pag sa game, kailangan medyo maging seryoso. Balance lang,” said Soltones.

Akari has more than enough tools to be a PVL power.
And with a proven winner like Soltones added to the team, the Chargers will only continue to push for a breakthrough in the PVL, starting in the 2024 season.
