Nxled Chameleons head coach Taka Minowa wants to see more from Jho Maraguinot in the 2024 PVL All-Filipino Conference.
Nxled head coach Taka Minowa is still far from satisfied with Jho Maraguinot’s impact for the Chameleons in the 2024 PVL All-Filipino Conference.
After a string of shaky performances in the first half of the season-opening conference, Maraguinot has seemingly found her prolific form in the past two outings.
The 5-foot-7 outside hitter delivered an all-around effort of 11 points, 13 excellent digs, and 31 excellent receptions in the loss to Chery Tiggo last March 26. She then followed it up with 12-point, eight-dig production in a crucial straight-set win over Strong Group Athletics on Thursday, April 4.
Despite her steady showing as of late, Minowa still wants to see more from Maraguinot.
“So far, it’s still not enough for me, her condition and performance,” the Japanese mentor said.
As the oldest player in Nxled and a fixture in the starting lineup, the 28-year-old Ateneo product carries a significant burden of responsibility – one that entails leading the team by example on and off the court.
And Minowa’s call for improvement is rooted in a desire to see Maraguinot reach her full potential.
“She’s our oldest player, she’s always in the first six, so my expectations are really high for Jho. I mean, as a mature player and good passer,” Minowa said.
He then continued, “She’s acting also, same as last conference. She needs to be more mature, she needs to keep on working.”
The young squad's semis hopes are hanging by a thread with a record of 2-5 for a joint seventh place. The Chameleons will need Maraguinot’s steady presence to make one strong push in the homestretch of the preliminaries.
Maraguinot and the Chameleons seek to keep pressing forward when they collide with the Farm Fresh Foxies on April 9, Tuesday, at the PhilSports Arena.
