Sisi Rondina and the Choco Mucho Flying Titans dashed the semis aspirations of the Capital1 Solar Spikers to gain a solo lead in the 2024 PVL All-Filipino Conference.
The Choco Mucho Flying Titans made it three victories in a row after knocking the Capital1 Solar Spikers out of semifinals contention with a 25-15, 25-16, 25-21 win in the 2024 PVL All-Filipino Conference at the Sta.Rosa Sports Complex Saturday.
The Flying Titans rose to solo first at press time with a 7-1 slate, breaking free from a three-way deadlock with the Creamline Cool Smashers and the PLDT High Speed Hitters, both of whom hold a 6-1 card.
Sisi Rondina showed the way once more with 13 points built on 12 attacks and a block. She also collected eight receptions and five digs.
Isa Molde provided ample support with nine markers, while Maddie Madaya and Cherry Nunag proved to be a tower of power with eight points apiece.
Deanna Wong, who started for Choco Mucho for the first time in a while, tossed out nine excellent sets.
Kat Tolentino, who was still recovering from a “medical condition”, did not see action.
Though the match ended in straight sets, the Flying Titans had to thwart the late fightback of the Solar Spikers.
Holding a 19-16 edge in the decisive third, Choco Mucho could not stop the Patty Orendain-led surge from Capital1, seeing its advantage cut down to a point, 22-20.
Rondina then restored order for the Flying Titans with a momentum-swinging blow before Maika Ortiz and Mars Alba delivered clutch defensive plays to seal the deal.
The Solar Spikers could not rekindle their Final Four hopes, falling to 1-7 record.
Jorelle Singh paced the losing side with 13 points, Jannine Navarro managed 11 markers. Orendain scored eight and collected five digs in the losing cause.
Choco Mucho seeks to stretch its winning run to four when it takes on Strong Group Athletics on April 13, Saturday.
Capital1, on the other hand, attempts to snap out of its funk when it faces Akari on April 11, Thursday.
Both matches will be held at the PhilSports Arena.
